Hey, I’m Alex, and I hail from the land of beer and bratwurst – northern Germany. I grew up as an only child in a single-mom household after my parents divorced when I was five. As is the case for many kids of divorced parents, my dad’s role was relegated to an occasional appearance, like a supporting actor who only shows up for one scene.
Being raised by a single parent is no walk in the park. When I was nine, my mom worked three jobs – one full-time gig and two side hustles on the weekends. It was inspiring to see her hustle so hard, but it also took a toll on my young mind. I read a ton of self-help books, but I didn’t really apply anything I learned. I was a theorist instead of a practitioner.
Thankfully, I found my calling in computer science. My love for coding was fueled by my mom’s gift of my first computer. Long story short, I managed to scrape through my A-levels, study computer science, and even earn a Ph.D. (yes, that’s doctor Alex to you!).
However, grad school was like riding a unicycle while juggling chainsaws – it nearly killed me. I’m still recovering from the stress and public speaking anxiety I endured during those six years. To cope, I tried everything from long-distance running to binge-watching shows on repeat.
But then, in 2022, my son Benjamin was born, and many things changed for the better – especially my perspective on life and the true natuire of success. Holding him in my arms made me realize that I needed to be a better version of myself – for him, and for me. I created this blog as a way to document my journey and share practical tips on how to navigate life’s ups and downs. From health to wealth to love, I’ve got you covered. Needless to say, I am just at the beginning of this journey.
So thanks for being born, Benjamin. You’ve given me a new lease on life – and something to write about other than computer code.
Yours truly, Dad (a.k.a. Doctor Awesome)
